These two units are connected via copper piping through which flows refrigerant. The basic principle of air conditioning is to circulate air through the absorption of heat in one internal area, then the subsequent heat release in an external area. It is the refrigerant that allows the heat to be exchanged from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit for release.
